About Charlaine Harris
Charlaine Harris is a native of Mississippi and now lives in southern Arkansas. She has been a published novelist for the past 25 years and specializes in books pertaining to the paranormal. She began her career writing ghost stories in college and also wrote poetry as well as plays. Throughout her career, she has dabbled in various types of fiction writing, at times working low level jobs so that in order to pursue her dream as a novelist.
Ms. Harris is married and has three children. During the time she took off to raise her children, she concentrated on writing and had two books published by Houghton Miffin. She began to write mystery books about a fictional character, Georgia librarian Aurora Teagarden and gained an Agatha Nomination for her first big seller, “Real Murders.”
After writing mysteries, she began the Lily Bard series that concentrated on a heroine who lives with the consequences of a horrible attack. Neither her mystery nor the Lily Bard series were enough to give her the recognition she sought for her talents and decided to write Dead Until Dark, a book that broke the genre boundaries of both science fiction and romance. This book gave her recognition in the literary world and spawned subsequent books about vampires, werewolves and other creatures of the paranormal. Her most famous heroine, Sookie Stackhouse, is a telepathic barmaid and is friends to creatures of the night.
The lure of the southern vampire books have found Ms. Harris a place in the literary world and have earned her a legion of fans throughout the world. In addition to her books being published in the United States, they are also published in the United Kingdom, Japan, Greece, Germany, Thailand, France and Russia.
A new heroine she has added to her books is Harper Connelly who has the ability to find corpses and has appeared in several of her books.
Ms. Harris is also the senior warden of St. James Episcopal Church and is also a board member of the Mystery Writers of America. Her books cross the genre between mysteries as well as the paranormal and has earned her a legion of followers and loyal readers throughout the United States as well as in other parts of the world. In addition to writing books, she also spends her spare time with her family, reading and also traveling.
