About John Grisham

John Grisham is best known for his legal thrillers that have sold over 250 million copies over the world. Prior to becoming a best selling author, he was an attorney. He is 54 years old and resides in the United States. In addition to a career in law, he also had a brief career in politics. He has used his knowledge of law and politics in his legal thrillers.

John Grisham is probably best known for his 1991 book "The Firm," which was also made into a film. The book described a young attorney recruited to a mobster organization to represent them. It is considered to be his best work so far and the best selling book of 1991. Prior to that, he wrote "A Time To Kill."

"A Time To Kill" was the first book written by John Grisham. He spent three years working on the book that is loosely based on the trial of a man who murdered the assailants of his 12 year old daughter. The book was made into a hugely successfully film starring Samuel L. Jackson.

Between 1994 and 2005, he was the author of 7 best selling novels. Most of his novels take place in the rural south, which is where the author was born and continues to live. He is one of the few authors who has sold two millions copies on their first printing, the others being JK Rowling and Tom Clancy.

In addition to "The Firm" and "A Time To Kill," Grisham also wrote "The Pelican Brief," a popular novel that sold over 11 million copies after release, although the movie version of this book was not as popular as "A Time To Kill."

In 1996, John Grisham returned to practicing law to represent a family of a railroad man who was killed after he was pinned between two rail cars. He is also a member of the Innocent Project, used to exonerate innocent people who have been convicted by implementing the use of DNA.

In addition to writing legal suspense, he has also written non-fiction books as well. He has written 17 fiction legal thrillers to date and five non-legal fiction books included "A Painted House" and "Bleachers."

Those who have not yet read John Grisham should begin their journey with "The Firm," which is arguably his best book and a suspenseful page turner. These books continue to be sold in both hard copy as well as paperback in any bookstore as well as through online outlets such as Amazon.

John Grisham is married to, Renee Jones and has two children, Ty and Shea. He lives in both Mississippi as well as Virginia where he splits his time. In addition, he and his wife also recently purchased a condominium in North Carolina. He considers himself to be a "Moderate Baptist" and a lifelong baseball fan. In addition to his many accomplishments, he also served in the House of Representatives for a short period of time in the 1990s as a Democrat.
