About Stuart Woods
Stuart Woods is an English writer who began his career writing about his Maritime adventures through a series of nautical books. The novelist began his career writing guide books after visiting over 138 restaurants and hotels in the United Kingdom. His first fiction novel, “Chiefs” was published in 1981 and made into a popular TV mini series. Although the book was rejected by several publishers, he was paid $7,500 for the publishing rights to the book.
Woods won the Edgar Award for the “Best First Novel” for Chiefs. This award is offered by the “Mystery Writers of America.”
Woods is most well known for his novels that focus on a former New York police officer named Stone Barrington and uses well known locales in New York City as his settings. The detective novels also revolve around dining, travel and even aircraft experience. So far, he has written 18 novels with the Stone Barrington character, many of which are slated for publication in 2010.
In addition to the Stone Barrington novels, he has also created the character of Holly Barker. The Holly Barker novels are set in Florida and are set in the 1930s. The characters depicted in the books by Stuart Woods often interact with one another and are set in the same fictional universe. In addition to the Barrington and Barker novels, Wood has also published several novels with the character of Will Lee.
Over his career, Stuart Woods has published over forty novels. His career has spanned over 28 years and he is still writing. He publishes a novel three times a year and in addition to being a writer, is also an accomplished pilot as well as a yachtsman.
Those who enjoy novels that are set in the 1930s will enjoy one or all of the books that are written by Stuart Woods. Because the characters in the different novels all exist in the same universe, they often cross over into other books. He is known for writing about strong characters and using his personal traveling experience as well as the inclusion of real as well as fictionalized locales in his work.
Most of those who are familiar with the work of Stuart Woods have read the book “Chiefs.” Although he did little to promote the hardback version of the book, he retained rights to the paperback printing which became a best seller in 1983, at which time it was made into the very popular mini-series. His books are available in bookstores throughout the United States as well as other parts of the world and also can be purchased through online outlets. In addition to his fictional novels, his guidebooks are still in circulation as well.
Stuart Woods writes mystery books that move in a fast pace setting with strong and believable characters that he has continued to develop throughout the years. He continues, along with an agreement from his publisher, to publish three books a year, although the main focus of his future novels are the Stone Barrington and Holly Barker novels.
He has now had twenty-four straight bestsellers on the New York Times hardcover list.
