About Debbie Macomber

Those who like knitting and want to mix it with the best of small town based fiction will enjoy the 150 books that have been written by Debbie Macomber. The Washington State native has written several series books as well as romance novels, most of which are based in the Washington State area and center around romance and women's fiction. To her credit, she is a winner of several Romance Writers of America Awards and has made the New York Times Bestsellers list on numerous occasions.

Debbie Macomber has a high school education but has gone on to become one of the most celebrated women's contemporary authors. She began her career as a stay at home mother, raising her four children and trying to break into the world of writing a Harlequin Romance. Her first effort, Heartsong, was said to be torn apart by the romance publisher and with a note recommending that she "throw it away." Macomber spent $10 to mail the same exact novel to Silhouette Books, the rival of Harlequin, where it became the first romance novel that was reviewed by "Publisher's Weekly."

"Heartsong" was her first published manuscript in the romance line. After Harlequin purchased Silhouette Books the publisher asked her to write a series of her own which are known as the Navy Stories. She continued to write for Harlequin and for a number of years, although refused to included explicit sex details in her books.

Her popularity soared in the literary world when her book "This Matter For Marriage" became a TV movie in 1998. She broke away from the publisher in the early part of the century and began a career on her own with two very popular series including the Cedar Cove Series and the Blossom Street Series. The Shop On Blossom Street and A Good Yarn were two of her biggest sellers and focused on a cancer survivor in Washington who opens up a knitting shop in a small town outside of Seattle where she dabbles into various aspects of life and also finds romance. The Blossom Street series is considered to be the best of all of her series books.

Those who want enjoy Debbie Macomber, will enjoy her lighter fare of the Cedar Cove Series or the Blossom Street Series, particularly "A Good Yarn," which was published in 2005. She continues to live in the Washington area and participates in a number of different causes including helping support shelters for battered women. Her books can be found in both hardcover as well as paperback version in your local bookstore or at online outlets such as Amazon.

Ms. Macomber is also an accomplished knitter and has also written a knitting book called "Knit Together." Many of her books, particularly the Blossom Road series, have knitting as an underlying theme in the book. Debbie Macomber is considered to be one of the top writers in the field of contemporary women's romance books today, continues to live in Washington and despite her charity work, still continues to write today.
